Anyways here is the story. Army PFC Bradley Manning is accused of releasing thousands of documents detailing information on the Iraq / Afghan wars. These documents were released to the public on Sunday. PFC Bradley was already being held for the release of a classified video back in June. He now stands accused of releasing these documents to the website wikileaks. This website is notorious for posting things like this. Although it kind of looks bad that classified documents were able to get distributed to the public, Pentagon Officials are downplaying the significance of the release stating that the documents were old, the classification was only at the SECRET level, and that it will not have an effect on operations.
Here is my take on this. Military officials are right. This leak is not that serious, and shouldn't impact operations. Everyone and their mother has a SECRET clearance in the military, and a lot of them have SIPR (classified internet) net access. None of the documents appear to have a TOP SECRET classification, so it really isn't too big a deal. It's not surprising either. TOP SECRET access is waaaaay harder to get, and even harder to distribute. Still, he signed a non-disclosure agreement and is subject to prosecution for the unlawful distribution of classified material. The kid is a traitor to his country and deserves to be locked up for the rest of his life. I guarantee this kid gets found guilty and spends a long time in prison.
I see a lot of people defending this kid, stating that the American people and the World have a right to know this information. Uh...no they don't. There is a reason that the military classifies information. It's to ensure the safety of our troops. Everytime there is a leak of classified information, lives are endangered. I have no sympathy for this kid. He knew the risks, and he knew the ramifications for his actions.
I also hope that the military relieved this kid's Security officer from duty or at least opened an investigation regarding him / her. Either his SSO is incompetent, or doesn't follow procedure for safeguarding classified information. Either way, for the sake of avoid future leaks, he / she needs forcibly retired.
As always...more information can be found here.... http://www.cnn.com/2...dex.html?hpt=C2

The media is just doing what its best at... over exaggerating.
Shoulda commented on this earlier, but meh lol...
The information was not that important. That much is true. Though, the release of the information was still very damaging and here is why. The release of the information compromises our collection assets (LRS-D, UAVs, Satellite imaging, ect.), which could potentially mean that we may not be able to use that specific asset to gather information anymore or puts the asset at risk. This leads to holes in intelligence, which leads to the endangerment of soldier and civilian lives alike.
They released some background information on the kid. When he was at intelligence school at Fort Huachuca, AZ (same place I went), he was reprimanded for the release of sensitive information (which I find a little funny, because he was still granted his Top Secret Security Clearance). Apparently he is openly gay, which the military does not condone at all. He was subject to a great deal of ridicule by other soldiers, which caused him to be isolated with really no friends. He apparently released the documents in retaliation for being pissed off at the military. He got caught, because he went blabbing off about releasing the information to some former computer hacker, who went straight to the FBI about it.
This kid endangered a great many lives. In fact, he may already have blood on his hands for what he's done. He deserves to stand trial for treason, and sent in front of a firing squad.
Also, the more I think about it, his security officer should stand trial too. If he wasn't completely incompetent, this information would not have been released. This kid would have had to bring in his own Thumb drive to the SCIF. The kid downloaded like 90,000 documents to it. It's not like the documents on the SIPR-net are conveniently zipped into huge files available for mass download. More than likely he had to sift through the information and download them 1 by 1 to the thumb drive. This would have taken a long, long time. So, this basically tells me that his security officer NEVER performed security checks on personnel entering and leaving the SCIF. He was too incompetent to even notice the thumb drive this kid had to be bringing to work everyday (we used thumb drives too, but they were clearly marked and very distinguishable from personal ones. He prolly just sit around playing games on his computer all day. I ran my shop for almost 4 years. We printed out hundreds of documents a day. Some of which were TOP SECRET// EYES ONLY (which means they had to be read and kept in our vault by specifically cleared personnel). I managed about 70 people's clearance, and access to classified information. I never once had a security incident, whether purposely or through the accidental release of classified information. And trust me, those sneaky Korean bastards were always trying to get information above their clearance (since they only had SECRET clearances). It wasn't hard. I just did my job. This guy obviously didn't. He deserves to be punished.

The thing I watched on TV was also an interview. He said that he brought in a CD-RW and just deleted all his music off of it then added the files. I didn't read your article since I knew about it already, maybe they contradict each other?

If this was Iraq.... I Would dis-agree, Afghanistan though, the kid was stupid.... He had clearance, if he wanted to do it right, he should have waited until everything in AFghanistan was done with... That way he wouldn't put his fellow soldiers in danger.... It's a stupid mistake....
He thought he was doing the right thing, and I can see why.....
Your country is bogged down in a war against a tiny force.( No doubt that, they are receiving help from Pakistan ISI... Who we brilliantly continue to give money too, makes sense don't it. In fact I wouldn't doubt Russia and china have there hands in there as well... China has rights to several Copper mines which are considered to be HUGE finds.)
Yet at the start of the war, we had the capability to absolutely put Afghanistan on Lock down.... (with international help of course).
Yet we fight a war, like we can fight it forever.. Like Vietnam.... Tactics that will not put a quick end to the war, but prolong it.... Ultimately a total disregard for the rules of war.(In a military sense, a supreme commander will look to put a quick end to a war, if he is attacking he cannot afford a long fight.) A regime that is weak and cannot defend itself will do what it can to prolong the effort with guerrilla tactics, it cost nothing to defend your home in time of war, desperate people will turn to desperate means.
That's the only reasoning I can see for him sending this. BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT I wouldn't have done it... at all, NOTHING.
Do I think he should get the death penalty ?
No, I think he should get life... I think a Lifetime of him knowing what danger he put his fellow soldiers in would be worse.
As far as Wiki leaks goes with the Information....
Let us have it...... I see that as the duty of the press. To report it is as is.
But...
Ya know..
Just off the top of my head..
IF we want to put him to death.
Cheney is next....
Didn't he oust a CIA agent ??
